Robert C. (Bobby) Howell, age 85, of Lyons passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Community Hospice of Vidalia.
Mr. Howell was born February 26, 1939 and was the only child of the late Omer Cleveland Howell and Martha Peavy Howell. He was a lifelong resident of the Marvin Community and lifetime member of the Marvin Church in Lyons, GA. He attended Marvin Elementary School when it was located across the street from Marvin Church and graduated in 1957 from Toombs Central High School. He loved his classmates and cheerfully organized the yearly class reunions. Bobby continued with his education by obtaining degrees from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He and his best friend, Curtis Carter, started out in school together and graduated together. Curtis offered his kindness and continued friendship and brotherly love to his lifelong friend until his last day. He lived his entire life on the beautiful land belonging to his family, passed down through generations. He was a retired farmer who often joined his late father at the Lyons stockyard. He was a conservationist of the land of his estate and was known for his succulent pecan orchards. He was an advocate for healthy living and good food. Until recently, he was known to be a treasured customer of Shoney’s and Captain’s Corner in Vidalia where he thoroughly enjoyed dining. Bobby was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles; grandparents, Linton Cleveland Howell, Zora Smith Howell, Robert Andrew Peavy and Daisy Holland Peavy.
Bobby is survived by his closest cousins, Cleveland Burkhalter, Susan (Chris) Nettles, Connie (Jimmy) Deal, Sandra Lowery, Eric Peavy, Betty Peavy, and Lane (Marian) Nelson. He is also survived by a special friend and caretaker, Nan Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at Marvin Church on March 17, 2024 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Michael Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Richard Clark, Chris Braddy, Jason Braddy, Ben Newton, Larry Cox, and Keith McKinney.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Curtis Carter, Wayne Kirkley, Mickie Lynn, Brad Owens, Charles James, Charles Braddy, Travis Pye and Billy Carter.
