Betty Cross Carter, age 89, of Baxley died Monday, March 14, 2022 at her residence under the care of Community Hospice.
Mrs. Carter was born February 11, 1933 to the late John Elijah Cross and the late Effie Pauline Cotton Cross. She was a member of Surrency Free Will Baptist Church and was a retired Teacher Instructor at the Sunshine Center. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, H. Virgil Carter.
Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Mike & Debbie Carter; daughters & sons-in-law, Debbie & A. P. Hunter and Dawn & Mark Melton; grandchildren, Doug Hall & fiance, Erica Herrington, Misty (Jerad) Stone, Candice (Dax) Brown, and Marley Melton; great grandchildren, Chance Vaughn, Brayden Vaughn, Brantley Vaughn, and Hudson Stone; sister-in-law, Shelba (Ronnie) Tucker; special caretakers, Lori Bruna, Brenda Rozier, and Star Spearel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Joey Andrews, Rev. Lamar Lee and Rev. Rick Brown officiating.
Interment will follow in Memorial Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Doug Hall, Chance Vaughn, Brayden Vaughn, Brantley Vaughn, Hudson Stone, Jerad Stone, and Darrell Holcomb.
Honorary pallbearers will be all friends in attendance.
Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.
