Betty E. (Odom) Collins

Betty E. Collins, age 86, of Baxley went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 20, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Collins was born March 9, 1938 in Appling County to the late Emerith Norman Odom and the late Maggie Stallings Odom. She was a seamstress and clerk for Belk Matthews. Mrs. Collins was a longtime, devoted member of Smith Street Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and in many other capacities; she later became a member of Baxley Christian Fellowship. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening and was a perfectionist at everything she did. But her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by husband and father of her children, Hubert Beecher; husband, Joseph David Collins; infant daughter, Julie Ann Beecher; and grandson, Jonathon Evers.

Survivors include her daughters, Janice (Tommy) Wilson of Hazlehurst, Diana (Steve) Lane and Vicki (J. L.) Ricketson both of Baxley; sisters-in-law, Bobbie Beecher of Baxley and Linda Thompson of Hollister, FL; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Daniels and Rev. Robert Beckum officiating. Interment will follow in Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Stone Bates, Jeremy Bates, Robert Hammock, Kyle Boatright, Robert Solomon, & Adam Webster.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kathy Profitt, Wanda Collins, Judy Thomas, Pat Gill, the Marantha Sunday School Class of Smith Street Baptist Church, and the staff of Community Hospice, Heidi Knox, Sam Griffin, Lynette Ricker and Janet Rollins.

The visitation will be Monday evening, 6-8pm, at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
