Carolyn Hunter McCall, age 93, died Friday, March 18, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. McCall was born May 24, 1922 to the late Emmett Carol Hunter and the late Addie Mae Williams Hunter. Mrs. McCall was a childhood member of Bethel United Methodist Church and became a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church when she married her husband, the late William Henry McCall. Mrs. McCall served on the Building Fund for Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She started teaching Sunday School at 15 years old and taught for 75 years. She was the church ministries Training Union Director and served as the Association Training Union Director. She was the director of W. M. U., Youth Director, Outreach Director, and served on the local and district Vocational Bible School Association.
Mrs. McCall felt the call to teach at a very young age. She would play school with her dolls, lining them up on her uncles' bed so she could look in their eyes making sure they were learning. She attended Middle Georgia College, Georgia Southern University, Mercer University and the University of Georgia. Mrs. McCall was a classroom teacher for twenty four years and Visiting Teacher for seventeen years. When she taught a child, the child was hers for a lifetime. She let each student know how special they were. She remembered little things students did even for 50 years. She would give $.25 to truant students for coming to school for 20 days without missing a day. She was a South Georgia College instructor, a Brewton Parker College instructor, a basketball coach for Appling County, an Adult Educational Instructor, a 4 H club advisor and an Educational Specialist for the Appling County Board of Education. She was a member of the National Educational Association, the Georgia Education Association, and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She made a great impact on those she touched.
Mrs. McCall was preceded in death by her brother, Calvin Hunter and her step-mother, Verdie Sumner Hunter.
Survivors include, one daughter, Vickie Crummey McCall of Baxley, GA; one nephew, Larry McCall, and one niece, Ann McCall both of Baxley, GA; two grandchildren, Army Major Eric McCall of Wade, NC, Air Force Major Christopher McCall of Mary Ester, FL; two great grandchildren, Kensley McCall and Luke McCall, and many cousins.
Active pallbearers are Ronnie Hunter, Frank Hunter, Corbett Hunter, Phil Hunter, Jr., J. C. Hunter, and David Brown.

J. Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 3:30 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Wigley and Rev. Darrell Quinn officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:30 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
