Charles Fulton “Sonny” Simmons, age 85, of Baxley passed away Thursday, January 9, 2025 at the Bacon County Hospital.
Mr. Simmons was born May 30, 1939 in Appling County to the late Charles Woodrow Simmons and the late Winifred Waters Simmons. He was a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church and was an avid farmer. He loved working the land and he had a deep love for his family. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Elaine Simmons.
Survivors include his daughters, Regina (Richard) Rainwater and Sharon (Jimmy Dean) Sikes both of Baxley; son, Jeffery (Rayann) Simmons of Baxley; sister, Rennae (Cohen) Griffin of Baxley; brother, Lamar (Margaret) Simmons of Baxley; six grandchildren, Tyler (Joni) Rainwater, Shannon (Brent) Merritt, Brooke (Caleb) Ellington, Ashley (Campbell) O’Steen, Holton Simmons, and Harrison Simmons; and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Tyler Rainwater, Holton Simmons, Harrison Simmons, Kevin Simmons, Kraig Simmons, Keith Simmons, Darrin Wooten and Horace Wooten.
Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy “Short” White, Richie Williams, Roscoe Hutcheson, Charles Coley, Lonnie Wooten, Charles Ray Stipe and the staff of Twin Oaks Nursing Home.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
