Curtis David Rentz

Curtis David Rentz, age 74, of Baxley died Thursday, August 20, 2015 in Brunswick, Georgia.

Mr. Rentz was born November 2, 1940 in Appling County to the late Rev. Cornelius David Rentz and the late Gladys Holland Rentz.

After graduating from Appling County High School, he enlisted in the United State Air Force serving at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. While in the service he learned the plumbing trade which would be his occupation for the rest of his life. He also met his future bride at the base chapel.

Mr. Rentz married Joyce Elaine Fievez on April 6, 1963. After completing his military service he studied agronomy at Washington State University. Later he returned to Appling County with his wife to raise their children, Sandy, Barry, Amy and Andy.

He operated his own plumbing business for many years, plumbing many local businesses and residences. Mr. Rentz was one of the few state licensed master plumbers in the area. For many years he worked as a mechanical quality control person at Ft. Stewart Army Base supervising the plumbing for new buildings.

Mr. Rentz was an active member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he was active in the Joy Sunday School Class. Over the years he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher and dearly loved his church and his church family. He enjoyed sharing his faith in the Lord with family, friends, and strangers. He loved to tell how the Lord always took care of him, especially after the death of his dear wife and daughter.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandy (Paul) Fuller of Salem, Oregon; sons, Barry (Denise) Rentz and Andy Rentz all of Baxley; grandchildren, Felicia Fuller, Jared (Tonya) Fuller, Eric Fuller, Luke Fuller, Sam Rentz, Cydney Rentz & Grace Avery; sisters, Barbara R. Carter and Joyce R. Riggs; brothers, James (Melba) Rentz and Warren (Caroline) Rentz; and special friend, Nancy Fuhrman. Mr. Rentz was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Joyce F. Rentz and daughter, Amy Rentz Avery.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11:00 am at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Quinn & Rev. Mike Stone officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Rentz will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Visitation will be Friday evening 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Swain Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Jared Fuller, Eric Fuller, Luke Fuller, & Sam Rentz, and nephews, James Carter, Bruce Rentz, Darin Riggs, & Felix Rentz.


Honorary pallbearers will be Larry & Janey Britt, Dwight & Janice Courson, Jimmy & Latrelle Dubberly, Roger & Tootsie Garner, Chris Rentz, Terry Rentz, Kenny Rentz, Mark Carter, Rev. Ronnie Rentz, Woody & Melody Holland, Lynda Carter, Myrna Loy Wood, Carlton Cranford, Jimmy Howard, Richard & Orma Donovan, Dr. & Mrs. Amin El-Banna, and the Joy Sunday School Class of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

Musical selections will be rendered by Linda Kay Eunice, Jonathan & Ansley Hickox, Rick & Ann Herndon, & Andrea Stone.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
