Dr. Stanley Heard Brobston, age 85, of Baxley passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Appling Healthcare.
Dr. Brobston was born on April 28, 1937 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Stanley Prentiss Brobston and the late Martha Elizabeth Lawrence Brobston. He was raised in Appling County and graduated from Baxley High School in 1954. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he attended the Fisherman’s Sunday School class and sang bass in the choir. Dr. Brobston was Veteran of the United States Navy, having served as a Naval Pilot and in the Vietnam War. He was a retired music educator from the Syossett, NewYork Public School System. He loved doing crossword puzzles, especially the New York Times Crossword Puzzles. Upon retirement, Dr. Brobston returned to Appling County and was very active in the community. He was a dedicated member of the Baxley Lion’s Club, serving as President four times and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. He enjoyed entertaining guests with his boats at Lake Mayers and was a faithful Pirate Football fan. He was a member of the Appling County Heritage Center and instrumental in the establishment of Heritage Parkway. Dr. Brobston was also a member of the Appling County Retired Educators. He authored and published, Daddy Sang Bass, a book about gospel songs.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Brobston was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Lawrence Brobston Beckworth, and brother, Henry Edwin Brobston.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Brobston of Baxley; sons, Stanley Holloway (Kara) Brobston of Connecticut and Stephen Henry (Irena) Brobston of New York; grandchildren, Franklin Gregory Brobston, Parker Elizabeth Brobston, Steele Sutherland Brobston, Hayes Gutterman Brobston, Sara Beth Brobston, and Montana Lee Brobston; sister-in-law, Charlotte Brobston Kimsey; nieces & nephews, Millie Annette Brobston Garcia Fogarty, Melanie Florence Brobston Bearden, Wendell Beckworth, Margie Beckworth Clotfelter, and Becky Beckworth Wright.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Omega Cemetery with Military Honors.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
