Emma Dean Smith Eunice Harris

Emma Dean Smith Eunice Harris, age 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 10, 2015.

She was born October 12, 1916 in Bulloch County, Georgia to Glynn Leo Smith and Mary Celia Johns.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Cleveland Washington Eunice and Calfry Harris; son, James Ronald Eunice; brother, Rufus L. and Gilbert Smith; step-brother, Wilton Smith; step-sons, Lorace and Maurice Eunice and Denny Harris; & grandson, Cleveland Michael Eunice.

Emma Dean is survivored by a step-sister, Thelma Beckham of Brunswick; a daughter in law, Carolyn Eunice of Bristol; granddaughter, Cathy E. (Jim) Ammons of Baxley, grandson, James Robert Eunice of Bristol; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; step-son, Kennon (Billye) Harris; step-daughters, Genell (Bobby) Phillips and Jawanna Wigley of Savannah; step-grandchildren, Jerald (Ileene) Eunice, Neil (Linda Kay) Eunice of Bristol, Denise Eunice (Donnie) Bargeron of Glennville, Wendy Phillips (John) Roberts of Hawaii, and Brandon (Kristin) Wigley of Savannah. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Emma Dean graduated from Patterson High School in 1935. She married Cleve Eunice in 1937 and moved to Appling County. She taught at Rocky Head School in the 1940s. She because a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church of Bristol in the late 1930s. After Cleve's death in 1973, Emma Dean enjoyed traveling the U.S. and abroad. She visited the Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Nassau, England, Nova Scotia, Mexico, Italy, Alaska, Hawaii, and two U.S. western tours including many states. Emma married Calfry Harris in 1983, moving her church membership with her to Savannah First Free Will Baptist Church. When Calfry passed away in 2014, she moved back home to Appling County after 31 years and rejoined Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. She loved her church families. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and cooking. She was a homemaker who never retired.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. from Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Hughes and Rev. Michael Locklear officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be her great grandchildren, Kristin Eunice, Jamie Ammons, Seth Eunice, Ethan Eunice, Jeremy Ammons, Christopher Eunice and Jason Ammons.

Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service at Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
