Esther Johnson Rushing

Esther L. Johnson Rushing, age 85, of Baxley died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at The Pavilion.


Mrs. Rushing was born December 22, 1927 to the late Madison Leon Johnson & the late Anna Lee Anderson Martin and was the widow of the late John Roger Rushing. She was a Homemaker and a member of the Baxley Church of God where she was active in the Women's Ministries & the Young at Heart. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth R. Rushing and a grandson, Shane Atkinson.


Survivors include her daughters & sons-in-law, Nancy & Gerald Hood of Alma and Debbie & Mike Carter of Baxley; son & daughter-in-law, Madison & Gail Rushing of Surrency; sister, Cherry Lynch of Baxley; 8 grandchildren; & 18 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; & many nieces & nephews.


Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm from the Baxley Church of God with Rev. Lamar Lee & Rev. H. Virgil Carter officiating.


Mrs. Rushing will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.


Interment will follow in the Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery.


Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8 pm, at Swain Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers: The Staff of The Pavilion, Bill & Joyce Tomberlin, Nancy & Jerry Williams, C. T. & Debbie Haynes, Colvin, & Jean Griffis, Nell Sheffield, & The Young at Heart of the Baxley Church of God.


Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
