Eversia Hasseltine Rogers Smith, age 95, who passed away on May 23, 2016
at Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee, Georgia, following a period of declining health.
She is survived by her daughters: Jill (Harry) Dasher of Baxley, Cheryl (Dickie) Tillman of Loganville, and Connie Smith of Young Harris; four grandchildren: Eric (Kelly) Dasher of Seattle, WA, Jeff (Stacy) Dasher of Hawthorne, CA, Erin (Alex) Flynt of Hattiesburg, MS, and Lee Tillman of Marietta, Georgia and three great grandsons, Shane and James Dasher and Eli Flynt. She is also survived by several sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jesse Fred Smith, her parents Benjamin Perry and Beulah Chastain Rogers, and her much loved siblings: Eula Rogers, Edith Fretwell, Ella Mae Butts, Exie Moss, Edsel, Ervin and Erman Rogers.
Eversia was born on April 11, 1921 in Mountain Rest in Oconee County, South Carolina and lived most of her adult life in South Georgia but her heart always remained in the mountains of western South Carolina. She inherited her green
thumb from her mother and was a frequent winner of the Garden Club yard-of-the-month. She grew beautiful roses, African violets and a variety of plants. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Appling Memorial Gardens in Baxley with Rev. Justin McLellan officiating.
Visitation will be 1:00 until 1:45 pm at the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home.
Remembrances may be made to Chatuge Regional Nursing Home 386 Belaire Drive, Hiawassee, Ga. 30546
The family will gather at the home of Jill & Harry Dasher, 2025 Zoar Road, Baxley, Ga. 31513
Arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
