Harold Jackson Carter, age 78, of Surrency passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at his residence.

Mr. Carter was born January 16, 1946 in Appling County to the late Eli William Carter and the late Mary Lee Johnson Carter. He was a carpenter and a former fitter with Baxley Equipment Co. He was a member of Philippi Baptist Church. Mr. Carter was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a longtime softball player.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evone Bowen.


He is survived by his wife, Vickie Lightsey Carter of Surrency; children, Paula (David) Crosby of Alma, Timothy Lanier Carter of Baxley, Heather (Dane) Bruce of Baxley, Lindsey (Jason) Griffin of Baxley, Victoria (Nicolas) Aspinwall of Jesup, Amazania Carter of Surrency, Savannah (Christopher) Earls of Tifton, and Elijah Carter of Surrency; sisters, Linda Ammons and Janet (Wendell) Nail both of Baxley; brothers, Larry (Karron) Carter and Eddie (Cathy) Carter both of Baxley and Tommy (Patti) Carter of Alma; the mother of his older three children, Vivian Dykes Carter of Surrency; god-children Archie White and Anna (Zac) Lewis; ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Dustin Crosby, Archie White, Cody Bruce, Collin Bruce, Elijah Carter, Myles Carter Aspinwall and Chandler Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. & Mrs. Gene Mann, Mr. & Mrs. Delmus Hale, Mr. & Mrs. Willard Lightsey, Lodis Higgins, Randy Thomas, Glendale Sullivan, Hoyt Beckworth, Ronnie Mullis, Darrell Taylor and Dr. Lance Hendrix.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
