Horace Herndon, age 88, of Odum died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Altamaha Healthcare in Jesup.
Mr. Herndon was born February 22, 1926 to the late Jacob Gordon Herndon and the late Mary Griffin Herndon. He was a member of Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church in Jesup. Mr. Herndon was a retired farmer and a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie Lou Herrington Herndon, a son, Herman Herndon, & a granddaughter, Dovie Lanette Herndon.
Survivors include 4 daughters, Carolyn (Edward) Fales and Catherine (Sammy) Hutto all of Jesup, Virginia (Ernest) Roach and Sandra Nail all of Odum; 1 son Harvey (LaWanda) Herndon of Baxley; 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 31, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home. Rev Ray Worley, Rev. Sammy Hutto and Rev. Mark Grimes officiated.
Interment followed in Memorial Free Will Baptist Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Harvey Herndon, Dusty Herndon, Lewis Nail, Chris Nail, Vince Fales, Matthew Hutto, Michael Hutto, Chance Herndon, Greg Fales, & Damian Nail.
Honorary pallbearers were Buck Scarborough and the staff of Altamaha Healthcare of Jesup.
Musical selections were rendered by Tennille Green & David Williams.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
