Hugh Edsel Darsey, age 84, of Surrency passed away Monday, September 7, 2020 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia.
Mr. Darsey was a lifelong resident of Appling County and was born on June 18, 1936 to Gordon and Burnese Carter Darsey. He was retired from CSX Railroad in Waycross and like his Daddy, Mr. Darsey was a lifelong farmer. He was a 1954 graduate of Surrency High School.
Mr. Darsey loved his family, and he loved old antique cars, especially those made in the 1950’s. He had a completely restored 1955 Crown Victoria which was pink and white in color, and it was like his first car.
Mr. Darsey was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Darsey, a son, Mark Stephen Darsey, and a grandson, River Hugh Darsey.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Beverly Gail Loper Darsey; a son, Rickey (Donna) Darsey; twin daughters, Sheena (Dale) Smith and Teena (Charles) Davis; three grandsons, Brentley Smith, Joshua Darsey and Finn Smith; two granddaughters, Beverly Ann (Sam) Gatlin, and Sarah Darsey; and a great grandson, Asher Gatlin; a sister, Mary Frances (Royce) Darsey Yawn; a special lifelong friend, Howard McLeod; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held Friday, September 11, 2020 at Antioch Congregational Church Cemetery with Charlie Thomas officiating.
