Ira Nelson Poole, age 91, of Baxley passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020.
Mr. Poole was born December 12, 1928 in Appling County to the late William Taff Poole and the late Mamie Lou Shipes Poole. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Poole was a retired mechanic and is the former owner & operator of The Gulf Station and Poole’s Wrecker Service. He served on the Baxley Fire Department and as Chief of the Altamaha Fire Department. He was a member of the Baxley Lion’s Club and the Appling County Young Farmers.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Poole was preceded in death by his brothers, Carlos Poole, Phillip Poole and a sister, Inez Hall.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Earline Griffis Poole of Baxley; daughters & sons-in-law, Harriette & Allen Hutchinson and Pamela & Charles Davis all of Baxley; sisters, Wilma M. Craven of Baxley, Mary Sally Hubbard & Martha Ann Poppell both of Wayne County; seven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Omega Cemetery with Rev. Joe Ferguson and Rev. Robert Wigley officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Sellers, Josh Hutchinson, Zack Griffis, Drake Carter, Chase Stone, Lane Hutchinson, Dalton Sellers and Tycen Hutchinson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Fishermen Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church, Randall & Cathy Branch, Vance Faircloth and Charles & Velma Stone.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
