J. Thomas Lightsey

J. Thomas Lightsey, age 82, of Baxley died Tuesday, September 23, 2014, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.

Mr. Lightsey was born December 12, 1931 in Appling County to the late Leland Dorsey Lightsey and the late Hester Boatright Lightsey. He was a member of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Lightsey was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War. He was a loving husband and father. Mr. Lightsey was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Lightsey, sister, Pauline Ring, brothers & sister in law, Earlish & Barbara Lightsey and John Henry Lightsey.

Survivors include his Four sons and daughters in law, Lambert & Debra Lightsey of Glennville, Lonnie & Joan Lightsey, Travis Leland Lightsey all of Baxley and Christopher & Jennifer Lightsey of Dublin; Three sisters & brothers in law, Mildred & Clarence Thornton of Garden City, Josephine & Thomas Buie of Rincon & Eulene Lightsey of Baxley; Three brothers & sisters in law, Vernon Ardle & Darlene Lightsey of Odum, Joseph Jerry & Debbie Lightsey & Willard Leland & Rita Lightsey all of Baxley. 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 26, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. from the Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Johnny Ray Gardner, Elder Aubrey Pearce & Elder Jerry Lightsey officiating.

Interment followed in Church Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers are Jessie Ring, Jerry Ring, Leland Ring, Travis Rowland, Keith Buie, Steven Earl Lightsey, Brian Lightsey,Ben Black & John Wesley Lightsey.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
