J. Merrell Miles

J. Merrell Miles, age 73 of Baxley died Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah.

Mr. Miles was born July 1, 1940, in Appling County. He was the son of the late Willis Frank Miles and Bertha Lillian Beckworth Miles. Mr. Miles was the owner of J M Miles Construction and was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church where he was an active member of the Adult Sunday School Class. Mr. Miles was a member of the Exchange Club, Gideons, International and Young Farmers Appling Chapter. He served in the Air National Guard. Mr. Miles worked hard his whole life to provide for his family. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren and left them a love filled Christian heritage. Mr. Miles was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Earl Miles, Dale Miles and a sister, Karlene Sellers.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Faye Miles of Baxley; One daughter, Redonnia Miles Jackson of Brunswick; One son, Keith Merrell Miles of Baxley; One sister, Treva Mullins of Decatur; One brother, Jewell Miles of Hazlehurst. 3 grandchildren and 20 nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Red Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Harris, Rev. Robbie Gill and Rev. Denny Waters officiating. Mr. Miles will lie in state one hour prior to funeral service.

Active Pallbearers are Ricky Williams, Victor Williams, Rodney Williams, Vann Mills, Jr., Jarrett Williams and Reggie Miles.

Honorary Pallbearers are Adult Sunday school class of Red Oak Baptist Church, Employees of J M Miles Construction, Inc., and Exchange Club of Appling County members.

Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday evening 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Swain Funeral Home.
