James Holt Sellers, age 84, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mr. Sellers was born December 20, 1936 in Appling County to the late William Henry Sellers and the late Lois Kennedy Sellers. He was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Sellers was a longtime local businessman, having worked in machinery and equipment sales. Many of his loyal customers became cherished lifelong friends. Mr. Sellers was preceded in death by his wife, Nova Deen Sellers and two great grandchildren, Wylder and Wilder Sellers.
Mr. Sellers was a hardworking and generous man who lived a life of servanthood. One of the greatest pleasures he received in life was in helping or giving to others. He was known and loved by many in his community. On most days of the week, visitors would drop by his shop for a word of wisdom or a good laugh with their trusted friend. He would always be seen in his signature striped overalls with friends around town sharing jokes or stories or talking about current events. He was very much a people person. A new friend recently said, “I’m just sorry I didn’t know Mr. Holt my whole life.” He was never too busy listen, share a story or offer his best advice. One of his favorite ways to express his love for people was by giving freely and sacrificially. He was generous to everyone including people he had just met, or lifelong family and friends. As one of his friends recently said, “Holt Sellers would give me his last dime if he knew I needed it.” He worked hard his entire life. He firmly believed that hard work and good ethics go hand in hand. He loved his work, and he put forth his best effort at everything he did. He had the deepest love for his family. The happiest moments of his life were spending time with his children and grandchildren. He would get a spring in his step anytime they were around, and he considered them his most prized possessions. His wife, Nova Deen was his partner for fifty-seven years and was the love of his life.
