James O. Lynch Jr., a beloved husband, father, papa, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully at his residence on January 14, 2025.
A native of Baxley, Georgia, James was the son of the late James O. Lynch and Rita Ann (Cherry) Lynch. He graduated from Appling County High School in 1966. In 1968, James was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably in Vietnam as a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during his service. James carried out his military service with immense pride and honor. Following his military service, James earned a degree in Architecture from South Georgia College. He moved with his family to Atlanta, where he had a distinguished career with Ironworkers Union Local 387, contributing to the construction of many of Atlanta's prominent buildings and projects. After retiring, James returned to Baxley, where he enjoyed reconnecting with his roots and community. James was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Lynch, and his brother, Stan Lynch.
He is survived by his devoted wife, June Bratcher Lynch; his children, Rodney (Michelle) Lynch, Jeffery Lynch, and Jennifer Robertson; stepchildren, Karen (Scott) Wallace and Lisa Crosby; grandchildren, David Digh, Noah Digh, Russell Lynch, Bryce Lynch, Connor Robertson, Daniel Lynch, Nicholas Lynch, Taylor Robertson, Dylan Robertson, and Anna Lynch; great-granddaughter, Summer Robertson; 5 step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; his sisters, Wilda Ann Grace and Jan Lynch; his brothers, Wayne Lynch and Hershel Lynch; his uncle, Brady Lynch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Red Oak Baptist Church on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Russell Lynch, Bryce Lynch, David Digh, Noah Digh, Conner Robertson, Dylan Robertson, Daniel Lynch, and Nicholas Lynch.
Honorary pallbearers will be Georgia Hospice Care and all friends and family in attendance.
James will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country, and the legacy he leaves behind in the lives of those who loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to GHC Hospice 141 S. Macon Street, Jesup, GA 31545.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
