James Henry Mills

James Henry Mills, age 81, of Baxley passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023, at his residence under the care of Comfort Care Hospice.

James was born August 14, 1941 in Appling County to the late Richard Franklin Mills and the late Lennie Altman Mills. He attended Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Navy.  James was a radiator mechanic and was owner of Vaughn’s Radiator. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. James welcomed everyone with a big heart and endearing smile. He loved to cook for his family and friends and was a wonderful cook. James was an excellent mechanic who could fix anything and enjoyed helping friends in need.  He was a great friend and loved God, family, home, and farming! James will be greatly missed!

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mills was preceded in death by a son, James Carl Mills, and two brothers, Richard Franklin Mills and Raleigh Wayne Mills.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Mills of Baxley; daughters, Francis Carmen, Denise Molter and Jenise Barker all of North Carolina; stepdaughters, Tammy (Johnny) Pendarvis of Baxley and Janet (Dr. Clay) Carter of Alma; sister, Annette Richards; brother, Vann (Carolyn) Mills. Five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and five Step-grandchildren, Dustin (Haley) Pendarvis, Jon Thomas Pendarvis, Brock Pendarvis, Maggie Carter, and Jack Carter; one step great-granddaughter, Emma Pendarvis; sister-in-law, Jeanna Young; brother-in-law, Wendell (Iona) Lightsey. A special niece and nephew, Megan (Spanky) Thornton and her children, Cade, Cooper, and Cohen and Vann (Karen) Mills, Jr. and family also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral with Rev. David Young, Rev. Lamar Lee and Rev. Ricky Mills officiating. Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dustin Everett Pendarvis, Jonathan Thomas Pendarvis, William Brock Pendarvis, Jackson Hoke Carter, Matthew Carson Mills, Logan Cade Thornton, and Cooper Lane Thornton.

Honorary pallbearers will be all friends in attendance.

The visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Swain Funeral Home.
