Joanne was born in Baxley, Georgia on July 25, 1934 and attended Baxley High School and the University of Georgia. At UGA Joanne was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. After UGA Joanne moved to Atlanta and worked in the residential real estate industry and became a Broker at the age of 24. She also created several businesses including 97.7 Big WWUF Radio Station in Waycross, Georgia. In her spare time Joanne was active in the Ms. Senior America organization and in 2003 was named Ms. Senior Georgia and competed at the National level for Ms. Senior America. Joanne was a great singer and won the Ms. Senior Georgia pageant with a rousing rendition of “When Irish Eyes are Smiling” in honor of her Irish heritage. Joanne also was a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta where she sang in the choir for 25 years. After Second Ponce de Leon she joined Mt. Paran Church of God and was a member there for over 30 years. Joanne traveled the world with her late husband Bill Brehm, a member of the Cherokee Town and Country Club. Joanne loved traveling, dogs, and singing and her outgoing and loving personality endeared her to everyone she met. Joanne was predeceased by her husband William “Bill” Brehm of Atlanta.
She is survived by her son Timothy Lee Chisholm of Atlanta and her daughter Lisa McCleskey (Charles) of Atlanta; her granddaughter Taryn Eason and four great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 11:00AM at Milikin Cemetery with Rev. Mark Lawton O'Quinn officiating. Active pallbearers will be Tim Chisholm, Chuck McCleskey, Ferrell O'Quinn, James O'Quinn, Scott O’Quinn, and Chad Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Atlanta Humane Society.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
