Joe A. Smith, age 86, of Baxley died Tuesday, May 12, 2015.
Mr. Smith was born May 15, 1928 in Jeff Davis County to the late Joseph Walter Smith and the late Emma Sovenia Smith. He was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was an avid coon hunter, hog farmer, loved to fish, spend time with family and friends and was a butcher for Cauley's Meats for 36 years before retirement. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillie Bell Peacock, Lena Mae Black, Frances Poe and one brother, Russell Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Nola Smith of Baxley; Two sons & daughters in law, Stevie & Donna Smith and Andy & Carolyn Smith all of Baxley; Eight grandchildren, Little Joe (Christian) Smith, Ashley Redwine, Rebecca (Josh) Gardner, Michelle Smith, Katlyn (Kevin) Thompson, Samanthia Smith, Lynnsey (Cody) Crummey, Michael ( Tabatha) Thomas and 7 great grandchildren, Kaylee Smith, Payton Smith, Jake Smith, Gracy Batchelor, Emma Redwine, Cooper Gardner and Levi Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 from Red Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Harris, Rev. Ron Ross, Rev. Robbie Gill and Rev. Denny Waters officiating.
Interment will follow in Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Little Joe Smith, Josh Gardner, Jake Smith, Kevin Thompson, Michael Thomas & Cody Crummey.
Honorary Pallbearers are the staff of Comfort Care Hospice and all in attendance.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Red Oak Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
