John Frederick Barfield

John Frederick Barfield, Sr. age 81, of Baxley passed away Friday, January 17, 2025 at his residence under the care of Comfort Care Hospice.

Mr. Barfield was born January 31, 1943 in Greenville, Florida to the late John Lehman Hobart Barfield and the late Jewel Iona Martin Barfield. He was a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Barfield was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of Union-O.C.A.W. Local 4-228, Port Neches, Texas and the Workman’s Committee. He had a 32-year career with Texaco-Huntsman Oil Company and was a retired Control Process Operator at Huntsman Chemical Plant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Davis Barfield; first wife, Connie Vanstory Barfield; sister, Janice McAdams; and a brother, Martin Hobart Barfield.

Survivors include his daughter, Misty (Marc) Engelmann of Dallas, TX; step-daughters, Tami (Kip) Wainwright, Karen (Jimmy) Davis, Shona (Ike) Pate all of Baxley, and Jennifer Clark of Nederland, TX; son, John F. (Becky) Barfield of Baxley; step-son, Phillip Richard of Orange, TX; sisters, Hilda (Kerry) Armstrong of Perry, FL and Selma Sauls of Tallahassee, FL; brother, Sidney Craig (Nancy) Barfield of Columbus, MS; sisters-in-law, Margaret Barfield and Melba Herrington both of Baxley; brother-in-law, Mickey Davis of Baxley; former wife, Marilyn Blum; and twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 24, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Community Church with Rev. Doug Weisel and Rev. Tim Carlson officiating. Interment will follow in Appling Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be grandchildren, Ryan Engelmann, Evan Engelmann, Jonah Engelmann, Trevor Pate, Trey Pate, Tristan Pate, Trenton Pate, Michael Davis, Ashley Wainwright, Amber Wainwright, Caitlin Brock, and Ashton O’Hara. 

Honorary pallbearers will be the Appling County High School Class of 1961.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
