Joseph Elmer Hopwood

Joseph Elmer Hopwood, age 69, of Baxley passed away Friday, April 12, 2024 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia.

Mr. Hopwood was born March 28, 1955 in Port Matilda, PA to the late William “Hoppy” Hopwood and the late Barbara Stanton Hopwood.  He was a member of Baxley Christian Center and loved his Lord and family dearly. He was an auto mechanic at Larry’s Auto Salvage, an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan and loved playing the guitar. Mr. Hopwood was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray Hopwood and sister, Vicky Hopwood.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Hopwood of Baxley; daughters, Lynn (Teddy) Meilander of Elyria, Ohio, Mandy (Keith) Krueck of Lorain, Ohio, Teri Ann Turner of Calhoun, Casey (Jeremy) Armstrong of Valdosta, Tammie (Brian) Bishop of Wesley Chapel, FL, Missy Dodds, (Cully McGrath) of Lakeland, FL, and Cynthia Hopwood of Tampa, FL; sons, Joey (Dawn) Dixon of Wellington, Ohio, Bobby Hopwood of Lorain, Ohio, and Robby (Maylin) Vinion of Wesley Chapel, FL; sister, Peggy Henderson of Hazlehurst; sister in law, Shirley Reynolds of Baxley; brothers in law, Joe Reynolds and David (Barbara) Reynolds both of Baxley; uncle, Ricky (Marion) Stanton of Lorain, Ohio; aunt, Laura Hand of Hazlehurst. Fifteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends, Larry & Diane Barber and Lauri & Rudy Paulk.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 15, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. R.B. Gaskins and Rev. Ryan Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Carter Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be Larry Barber, Jr., Terry Barber, Randy Harkleroad, Chuck Smith, Joe Boatright and Mitchell Curl.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
