Larry Dewayne Spell, age 59, of Wayne County died Saturday, April 24, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family, under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Appling County native had lived most of his life in Wayne County, Georgia. Larry worked at Georgia State Prison in Reidsville before transferring to the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Jesup from which he retired. Larry served in the U.S. Army which included a tour in Germany. Larry was well liked by his co-workers as well as anyone he had the opportunity to meet.
In addition to his parents, Doris Edward Spell, Sr. and Myrtle Lee (Spaulding) Spell, he was preceded in death by his nephews, Davey Spell and Richard Spell.
Survivors include his wife, Janice M. Spell, of Screven, GA; daughters, Dr. Larissa (Josh) Fenn of Odum; Brandy Spell (Calvin Strickland) of Screven; grandchildren, Autumn and Christopher Geiger, and Morgana and Holden Fenn; Brothers and sisters, Edward (Bonnie) Spell, Richard Spell, Greg Spell, Leonard Spell, Diane Spell, from Baxley, GA; David (Kim) Spell, of Rayland, Ohio; and Terrie (Robert) Schirg, from Crestview, FL.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Womack officiating and a eulogy given by Larissa Fenn.
Interment will follow in Zoar Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Edward Spell, David Spell, Greg Spell, Leonard Spell, Daniel Davenport, Josh Fenn, Calvin Strickland and Jacob Spell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Spell, Chuck Moseley, Guylee Washington, Tom Woods, Brenda Hearn, Ricky Sheffield, John Yawn, Tim Estep, Tony Shuman, Joel Johnson, Jim Echols, Georgia Clark, Dennis Wilkins, Joe Moseley, Walter Spence, Eric Mallard, Yancie Wright, Jackie Wright, Barbara Benge, employees of FCI Jesup, and Georgia State Prison.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Swain Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
