Laura Harrelson

Laura Harrelson, age 79, of Hazlehurst, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at her residence under the care of Coastal Hospice.

Mrs. Harrelson was born March 30, 1945 in Waycross to the late William Henry “W. H.” Currie and the late Pearlie Rigden Currie. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. Mrs. Harrelson was retired from Jeff Davis County Tax Commissioner and a homemaker. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making quilts. Mrs. Harrelson was active in the Consolation Baptist Association Prison Ministry for many years and served as Vacation Bible School Director. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ada Alexander and Aline Painter, and brothers, Ruben Currie and W. A. Currie.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Wendell Harrelson of Hazlehurst; daughter, Melinda (Dan) Miller of Hazlehurst; son, Keith (Gayla) Harrelson of Hazlehurst; sister, Oletha Thompson of Conyers; six grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren also survive. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Yawn officiating. Interment will follow in Zoar Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers will be Bryan Harrelson, Ryan Harrelson, Cory Harrelson, Clay Wilkes, Kartley Morris, and Noah Wilkes.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Outback Serenity Ministries.
