Laverne Griffin Lewis

Mrs. Lewis was born November 14, 1935 in Appling County to the late Vernon Griffin and the late Ina Miles Griffin. She was a member of Miles Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Lewis was a former supervisor at Oxford of Alma and was retired assistant plant manager of Ship-n-Shore. She was a hard worker and loved helping others. Mrs. Lewis loved the outdoors, gardening, canning and sharing her garden with others, but most of all, she loved her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Wilson “J. W.” Lewis; sister, Lorene Schernfielder; and brothers, Sylvester Griffin and Jimmy James Griffin.

Survivors include her four daughters, Patricia Newton, Martha (Jackie) Strickland, Joan (Lonnie) Lightsey & Peggy (David) Taylor all of Baxley; brother, Danny (Karen) Griffin of Baxley. Six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.at Miles Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Stacy Bourguine and Rev. Doug Weisel officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Ryan Taylor, Chris Addison, Shawn Nail, Richard Taylor, Tyler Griffin and Rusty Roberson.

Honorary pallbearers will be all friends and family in attendance.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
