Laverne Smith

LaVerne Smith, age 88 of Surrency, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in the Appling Healthcare System.

Mrs. Smith was born August 27, 1926 in Appling County to the late James Washington Stanfield and the late Nellie Mae Eason Stanfield. She was a member of the Baxley Church of God. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, John Benjamin Smith, son in law, Jimmy Bowen and grandson, Chad Reeves.

Survivors include her three daughters, Sandra (Jesse) Baumgardt, Ann Bowen and Elaine (Donald) Reeves all of Surrency; Three sons, Windell (Iamma) Smith of Baxley, Eddie (Alli) Smith of Jefferson, S.C. and Glenn (Tammy) Smith of Surrency; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from Bethel Methodist Church with Rev. Eddie Smith officiating.

Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday evening 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Swain Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers are Zach Collins, Matt Smith, Jeremy Smith, Chad Davidson, Don Johnson and Jason Moody.

Honorary Pallbearers are the Sanctuary Sunday School Class of the Baxley Church of God & Altamaha Healthcare.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
