Mabell Childers Pruitt

Mabell Childers Pruitt, age 86, of Baxley passed away Friday, March 14, 2025 at Lumber City Rehabilitation Center under the care of Regency Southern Care Hospice.

Mrs. Pruitt was born March 4, 1939 in Hartsfield, Alabama to the late Homer Childers and the late Dema Cloer Childers. She was a simple lady who loved her family and enjoyed cooking, traveling, antiques and gardening. Mrs. Pruitt was a retired med nurse and was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Marion Davie Pruitt, and a son, Spencer Chaffin, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Shelia (Steve) Baxley; son, Stanley (Samantha) Chaffin; two grandchildren, Kathy Baxley and Brian Baxley; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mitchell Conaway also survive.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Friendship Congregational Christian Church to celebrate the lives of Mabell & Davie. Rev. Wayne Williamson will officiate, and interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brian Baxley, Ed Jarrett, Jerry Baxley, Miles Vaughn, Colin Jarrett and Jones Baxley.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
