Malcolm Lynwood "Mackie" Sweat

Malcolm Lynwood “Mackie” Sweat, age 78, of Hazlehurst passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at his residence under the care of Community Hospice.

Mr. Sweat was born October 30, 1945 in Ware County to the late Malcolm Willis “Mack” Sweat and the late Addie Mae Carter Sweat.  He was a member of Satilla Free Will Baptist Church and retired from Hazlehurst Mills in Production Control Management.  Mr. Sweat also was a veteran in the United States Air Force. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Moore Sweat.

Survivors include his daughter, Adriane (Rodney) Thomas of Hazlehurst; brother, Wayne (Susan) Sweat of Martinez; a nephew, Payton (Michelle) Sweat of North Augusta, SC. Two grandchildren, Skyler (Katelyn) Thomas and Shaw Thomas; one great grandchild, Asher Dane Thomas; and a special friend, Brent Merritt also survives.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 2, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Satilla Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Smith and Mr. Jimmie Ryles officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dobbie Cauley, Jerry Hand, Steven Swain, Matt Johnston, Chad Bruce, and Eddie O’Neal.

Honorary pallbearers will be his caretakers: Bridgett Lawson,  Barbara Meeks,  Renee McRae, Sandy Hunter, Faye Thomas, and Sallie Roussell.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
