Martin Hobart Barfield

Martin Hobart Barfield, age 74, of Baxley died Monday, August 24, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Barfield was born August 9, 1941 in Greenville, Florida to the late John L. Hobart Barfield and the late Jewel Iona Martin Barfield. He has been a resident of Appling County since 1956 and was a member of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Barfield was an outstanding gardener and was retired from Rayonier after 32 years of service. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice McAdams.
Survivors include his wife; Margaret Carter Barfield; daughter, Belinda Barfield of Savannah; two sisters, Hilda (Kerry) Armstrong of Perry, FL and Selma Sauls of Tallahassee, FL; two brothers, Fred (Mary) Barfield of Baxley and Craig (Nancy) Barfield of Columbus, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Rae officiating. Interment will follow in Appling Memorial Gardens.
Active Pallbearers are Scott Carter, Joey Boyette, Lloyd Beecher, Junior Johnson, David Kersey, Greg Murray.
Honorary Pallbearers are Doug and Kathy Walter, Lula Mann and Family, Sarah and Lamar Jones, Virgil and Betty Carter, & the Congregation of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6-8 p.m., at Swain Funeral Home.
