Mary Brigman Godfrey

Mary Jean Brigman Godfrey, age 95, of Baxley died Monday, February 9, 2015 in Macon.

She was born November 18, 1919 in Appling County to the late William Foster Brigman and the late Verdie Sue Roddenberry Brigman. She was a retired educator with the Appling County Board of Education and a member of the Retired Educators of Appling County. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Queen Esther Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Appling County Heritage Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Elmer Godfrey; three sisters, Grace Bryan, Pearl Morris, & Bessie Kesler; and four brothers, Paul Brigman, Bill Brigman, Robert Brigman, & Joffre Brigman.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Godfrey Clarke of Savannah and Judy Godfrey Ennis of Macon; a son, Jack Foster Godfrey of Sutherland Bluff; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015 at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Omega Cemetery.

Mrs. Godfrey will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Honorary pallbearers: Members of The Retired Educators of Appling County and the Queen Esther Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Roy Herrington, Bruce Carson, J.W. & Merle Murray, Roy & Elaine Bass, Jeff & Edie Baxley, Randall & Cathy Branch, Doug & Dovie Doyle, Larry & Beth Knight, Keith & Jada Miles, Duane & Linda Brooks, Greg Kennedy, Peggy Luke, Frankie Tillman, Alice Ebel, Winnie Doyle, Margie Brown, Juanita Purcell, Shrimp Moody, & Hilda Brannen.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 6-8 p.m., at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
