Michael Sutton

Michael Sutton, age 51, of Baxley passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Appling Healthcare System.

Mr. Sutton was born August 27, 1969 in Brunswick to the late Michael Allen “Mike” Sutton and the late Louise “Lucy” Rittenhouse Sutton. He was a Senior Radiation Protection Technician with Southern Company at Plant Hatch and a member of Melton’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Sutton was also a graduate of Appling County High School Class of 1987. He was a devoted family man and was especially proud of his son, Matthew, who is majoring in Aerospace Engineering and minoring in Systems at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida and his daughter, Sarah, who is majoring in Business at College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick.  He was also preceded in death by his step father-in-law, Ardle Lightsey.

Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Regina Crosby Sutton; daughter, Sarah Sutton; son, Matthew Sutton; brother, Jes Sutton; mother-in-law, Darlene Lightsey; father-in-law, James (Anita) Crosby; brother-in-law, Troy (Stephanie) Crosby; two nieces; and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 23, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Danita Knowles officiating. Interment will follow in Melton’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday evening, 6-8 p.m., at Swain Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Kevin Parker, Dexter Whitley, Travis Crosby, Colby Edwards, Brett Aycock, Johnny Moser, Allen Hoff, Tony Adams, Tommy Lightsey, and Shawn Lightsey.

Honorary pallbearers will be his past and present co-workers at Plant Hatch.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon’s International (P.O. 403 Baxley, Georgia 31515).

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
