August 29, 1941 — May 10, 2024

Baxley

Nadre Wiggins Thompkins, age 82, died Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Bacon County Hospital in Alma.

Mrs. Thompkins was born August 29, 1941 to the late Rev. Lannie Wiggins and the late Rev. Clara Wiggins in Donalsonville, GA but had moved to Baxley with her parents as a young adult for them to pastor.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Belton Thompkins and all of her siblings, Ronald (Irene) Wiggins, Deloris Deen, Doyle Wiggins, and Nathan Wiggins.

Nadre graduated from Georgia Southern University with a teaching degree and began her teaching career at Fourth District Elementary School where she taught for 31 years in the same grade and the same classroom and taught both of her children in the 3rd grade.  After retirement, she continued to substitute in the school system and did several long-term subs to accumulate over 45 years of service.  She was also a charter member of the Big Oaks Church of God.  She dedicated her life to the Lord when she was 12 years old and never wavered from her faith or her church.  She served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years and was the Piano/Organ Player for 57 years.  She was an avid fan of flowers everywhere and enjoyed many hours outside planting all kinds of blooming flowers and loved riding her golf cart around the yard to water and admire them daily.

She is survived by a daughter, Pam (Eddie) Wynn and a son, Gene (Wendy) Thompkins, both of Baxley; her pride and joy, two grandsons, Devin (Amy) Causey and Colin (Hollie) Causey, both of Baxley; three great grands that she loved dearly, Elyza Jayne Causey and Ella Lou Causey both of Baxley and Dutton Lane Causey of Hazlehurst; a lifelong friend, Gerrie Spell of Baxley; sisters-in- law, Jane Wiggins of Colquitt and Jean Wiggins of Chattanooga, TN, Louise Miller and Georgia Mae Creamer, both of Baxley, Bertha Buch of TX, Mildred Moore of Ludowici; and brother-in-law, Homer (Bonnie) Thompkins of Ludowici. Several nieces, nephews and a special caregiver that helped to keep her at home as long as possible, Liz Causey also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Big Oaks Church of God with Rev. Mark Grimes, Rev. Richard Lewis and Rev. Gary Horton officiating. Interment will follow in Appling Memorial Gardens.
