Orville Herndon

Orville Herndon, age 84, of Baxley, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.

Mr. Herndon was born September 10, 1936 in Baxley to the late Ellie Lee Herndon and the late Vera Baxley Herndon. Before retiring, he was an electrician and was employed with Southern Company at Plant Hatch, and he was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Herndon was a deacon and member of Harmony Baptist Church and an avid golfer and golf instructor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Jones and JoAnn McMillan; and a brother, Elmer Herndon.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Herndon of Baxley; daughter, Patricia Herndon of Baxley; son, Gene Herndon of Baxley; sisters, Lillie Mae Beach of Baxley, Dorothy Mincey of Baxley, Eva Jean Dubbery of Savannah, and Mamie Herndon of Baxley; brother, George Herndon of Baxley; three grandchildren, Rick White, Nicky White (Frank Flores), and Matthew Herndon; and one great grandchild, Landon White.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Hutcheson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund (P.O. Box 483 Baxley, GA 31515).

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at Swain Funeral Home.
