Richard Herrington, age 59, of San Salvador, El Salvador died Thursday, July 21, 2016.
Mr. Herrington was born March 28, 1957 to the late Homer Virgil Herrington and the late Winnie Merle Johnson Herrington. He played basketball for the Appling County Pirates prior to graduating in 1975. He continued his basketball career at ABAC on a basketball scholarship and also attended Valdosta State University. He was the General Manager for Textiles LaPaz Delta Apparel Incorporated in San Salvador, El Salvador. Mr. Herrington was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer Ashley "Pat" Herrington, Ken Herrington and three sisters, Shirley Herrington, Judy Herrington and Luda Herrington.
Mr. Herrington is survived by his wife, Karen Melissa Hernandez Herrington of San Salvador; three daughters, Andrea Sophia Herrington, Kathleen Ariana Herrington both of San Salvador and Shanna Claire (John) Saunders of Moultrie; five sisters, Patricia A. Covington of Baxley, Linda Wynkoop of Banner Elk, N.C, Elaine Sikes of Jacksonville, FL, Janice Sties of Metter & Sadie Wright of Amelia Island, FL; three brothers, Tony (Mary) Herrington of Baxley, Terry (Gloria) Herrington of Columbus and Danny Herrington of Baxley; two grandchildren, Sadie Pate Saunders and Drake Saunders.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Pete Aycock & Rick Tomberlin officiating.
Interment will follow in Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.
Active Pallbearers are Alton Covington, Michael Hamrick, Alan Hamrick, Charles Sikes, Jeff Sikes, Stephen Wright, Wayne Herrington and Clint Herrington.
Family will assemble at the home of Tony & Mary Herrington 1262 Jimmy Shipes Road, Baxley, Ga.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
