Robert Lee "R.L." Orvin

Robert Lee "R.L." Orvin, age 76, of Baxley died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in the Pierce County Nursing Home.

Mr. Orvin graduated from Appling County High School and later enlisted in the military. First serving in the Army and then the Navy aboard the USS Vesole
during the Vietnam War where he was cited for his devotion to duty during 23 missions in a 30-day period.

Born in Appling County to the late W. H. "Son" Orvin and Carrie Branch Orvin, he was preceded in death by his wife, Reba McDuffie Orvin and three sisters, Jeanette O. Bowman, Wynell O. Bush and Marilyn O. Trogdon.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Lynn) Alley and David (Simone) Alley of Virginia Beach, Virginia; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; four sisters, Annette O. Osborne of Baxley, Dorothy O. O'Steen of Blackshear, Carrie Lee O. Bryant of Hazlehurst and Jackie O. Hayes of Waycross; five brothers, J.W. (Patricia) Orvin, H. B. (Janet) Orvin, D.C. (Billie Jean) Orvin, Danny (Brenda) Orvin and Mickey (Barbara) Orvin all of Baxley; a host of nieces and nephews and his church family that loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00 am from Sand Hill Creek Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Karl Sexton and Rev. Clint Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.

Active pallbearers are Andy Orvin, Justin Orvin, Corey Orvin, Glynn O'Steen, Robert Carter and Lantz Orvin.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at Sand Hill Creek Free Will Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
