Rufus Shelton Todd

Rufus Shelton Todd, age 89, of Baxley died Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Lakeview Retirement Center surrounded by his family.

Mr. Todd was born August 30, 1926 in Tattnall County to the late Joseph Shelton Todd and the late Leila Barton Todd. He retired from the City of Baxley with 30 years of service as the Water Works Superintendent and was a self-employed Truck Farmer. In his later years, he attended Friendship Congregational Christian Church and Ten Mile Creek Baptist Church with his children. He was a member of the Peace Officers Association, Herrington Boy's Ranch and the Jaycees.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Betty Fossett Todd of Baxley; three daughters, Sylvia & Wilton Carter of Baxley, Bonnie & Darrell Williams of Lumber City and Vickie & Keith Pearce of Baxley; a sister, Ann Todd Lewis of Cleveland, TN; a brother, Toby Todd of Vidalia; seven grandchildren, Todd Carter, Kimberli Knight, Tonya Shiver, Robyn Williams, Stacey Williams, Regina Bridges & Keisha Whitley; fifteen great grandchildren & three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Snell, Rev. Fred Anderson & Rev. Mark Grimes officiating.

Interment will follow in Omega Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service at the funeral home.

Active Pallbearers are Todd Carter, Robyn Williams, Stacey Williams, Eddie Bridges, Dexter Whitley, Jack Todd & John Todd.

Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Dubberly, Roger Cain, Ronnie Taylor, Rudolph Thomas, Rev. Virgil Carter, Raymond Wheeler, Mike Cleland, Graduating Class of 1945, the Staff of Lakeview Retirement Center & Joe's Qwik Stop Coffee Club.
