Samuel Wright Herndon

Samuel Wright (S. W.) Herndon, age 83, of Hazlehurst passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Herndon was born February 29, 1940 to the late Warren (Bud) Herndon and the late Vera Mae Long Herndon.  He worked as a supervisor in the forestry industry for Continental Can and was a member of the Hazelhurst Pentecostal Church. He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Herndon, and brother, Warren (Buck) Herndon Jr.

Survivors include his sons, Sammy Herndon of Fort Valley, Ga, Tony Herndon of Ft Valley, Ga, and Duane (Deborah) Herndon of Hazlehurst. Nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 31, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Oakland Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Davis and Rev. Royce Hulett officiating. Interment will follow in Hazlehurst City Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be, Cody Herndon, Cade Herndon, Chris Herndon, Jason Herndon, Steven Herndon, and Eric Herndon.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all family and friends in attendance.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
