Sandra Kay (Ussery) Staten

Sandra Kay (Ussery) Staten, age 69, of Baxley passed away Friday, November 1. 2024 at Lumber City Care Center.

Mrs. Staten was born June 27, 1955 in Rapid City, SD to the late Marvin Lucas Ussery and the late Laura Nell (Pace) Ussery; she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald L. “Ronny” Staten. Mrs. Staten was a retired educator, having taught in various schools during her career, including Appling County High School and Johnson County High School. She received B.S. in Secondary History Education and Social Studies from Brewton-Parker College and her Master’s Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment from Walden University.

Survivors include her daughters & son-in-law, Sarah Dawn Murray of Warner Robins and Holly Ann Smith & Walter L. "Vern" Smith, II of Surrency; a sister, Cathy Ussery Garschagen of Morven; a nephew, Adam Garschagan of Valdosta; and eleven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be announced later but feel free to visit with the bereaved at Mrs. Staten's home on Joey Lane in Baxley.
