Tommy Lewis Tyre, Sr. age 82 of Surrency, Georgia passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at his residence.
Tommy was born February 8, 1940 in Appling County. Tommy retired from the railroad in 1997 and was a fifth generation farmer. Tommy enjoyed carpentry, gardening, barbequing and spending time with his grandsons and family. Many family members and friends have received creations of woodwork such as birdhouses, picture frames, and swings. They could all look forward to season vegetables and fruits grown by Tommy. During the holidays you could expect his barbecuing skills of Boston butts and chicken to come alive. But his great pride and joy were revealed in his love for his wife, children and grandsons.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Irene (Tomberlin) Tyre and sister, Nova Deen Sellers.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Velma Scott Tyre, children, Andrea (Bruce) Rentz of Baxley and Lewis Tyre of Blackshear: grandsons, Chandler Rentz and Cameron Tyre; brother, Charles (Sharon) Tyre; brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman Scott of Cleveland, Tennessee, Benny (Phylis) Scott of Hilliard, Florida, Daniel (Patricia) Scott of Blackshear, Donald & Lawanda Johnson and Glenda Hennessy of Alma, Larry and Edna Dyal of Baxley, Erma Winn of Bristol, Mary Ann Scott of Baxley; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
