Vernell Mincey

Vernell Mincey, age 86, of Hazlehurst, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Mincey was born August 28, 1937 in Bacon County to the late Joe Cothern and the late Geneva Taylor Cothern. She was a charter member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was a member of the Pilot Club and served as President in 1976. She was a retired administrative assistant from Hazlehurst Mills. Mrs. Mincey was preceded in death by a brother, James L. “Bud” Cothern.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, James Mincey of Hazlehurst; daughter, Janet (Neal) Rigdon of Hazlehurst; sister, Ella Vern (Charles) Warren of Hazlehurst; sister-in-law, Faye Cothern of Hazlehurst; grandchildren, Brooke (Brian) Hampton and Brittany (Kacey) Hurley all of Hazlehurst; great grandchildren, Noah McNeal, Kenley Hurley, Georgia Davenport, Lillian Rigdon, Jackson Rigdon and Sydney Rigdon; and several special nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Rusty Harper and Rev. Charles Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Oakview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Kenny Jones, Josh Chestnut, Greg Kight, Kevin Taylor, John Stinson and Michael Beecher.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church.
