William Eugene Fields, Sr

William Eugene Fields, Sr., age 82, of Hazlehurst, Georgia died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Fields was born September 8, 1933 in Baxley, Georgia to the late Murris Fields and the late Minnie Hopkins Fields. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Georgia Annie Ruth Fields. He proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the United States Army for twenty years. He achieved several military honors including a National Defense Service Medal. After his military years he retired as a truck driver. He resided in Jeff Davis County for the past seventeen years.

Mr. Fields is survived by two daughters, Linda (Michael) Bailey of Baxley, Georgia and Cathy (Vance) Yawn of Graham, Georgia; one son, William (Judy) Fields of Hazlehurst, Georgia; two sisters, Linda Thompson of Glennville, Georgia and Hazel (Jr.) Deloach of Glennville, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Jeannie (Bob) Selheimer of Marydel, Delaware, Jo Ann Reedy of Marydel, Delaware, and Lois Jarman of Princess Ann, Delaware; and one brother-in-law, James (Erica) Walker of Wilmington, Delaware. He is also survived by four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM from the Swain Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Daughtry officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Swain Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Friendship Congregational Christian Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Mosley, Vance Yawn, William Bailey, Clint Miller, Tommy Thompson, and Randy Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Community Hospice.
