William "Bill" Clinton Wright

Capt. William C. (Bill) Wright

Capt. William C. Wright, 84 of Baxley passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 20, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah.

Mr. Wright was a native of Linden, Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1950. He served 1 tour in the Korean Conflict and 2 tours in Vietnam. While in Vietnam he flew 146 combat missions in the F-4 Phantom Fighter Jet. In his 23 year career he was awarded many citations, Seven Air Medals for meritorious achievement, Navy Commendation Medal with combat "V", Three Presidential Citations, Three Good Conduct Medals, Marine Expeditionary Medal, Marine Reserve Medal, Two National Defense Medals, Korean Service Medal, Antarctic Service Medal, Republic of Korea War Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Six Vietnam Service Medals, Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Shirley A. Wright of Baxley; one son, Brad Wright (Becky) of Baxley; two brothers, Ronald Wright of Jefferson Iowa, and Johnny Wright (Barbara) of Waukee Iowa; one sister, Connie Heuer of Altoona, Iowa; one grandson, Daniel C. Tuten (Jill) of Atlanta; and two granddaughters, Diana M. Wright of Brunswick and Victoria M. Wright of Brunswick.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter C. Wright, and his mother, Mary Sammon; two sons, W. Craig Wright and Marc D. Wright; one grandson, Phillip Wright.

He attended Christ Community Church and was a member of VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge 717, and Alee Temple.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, February 23, 2015 at Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be in Bayard, Iowa at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
