Mrs. Winifred Simmons, age 97, of Baxley, GA died Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at the Pavilion.
Mrs. Simmons was born February 2, 1917 in Appling County to the late Robert Waters and the late Bertie Smith Waters. She was a member of Crosby Chapel United Methodist Church and was a homemaker and a retired seamstress. Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Woodrow" Simmons, a grandchild, Tina Michelle Simmons, sister, Lucille Hawthorne and daughter in law, Judith Elaine Simmons.
Survivors include one daughter & son in law, Rennae & Cohen Griffin of Baxley; Two sons & daughter in law, Charles "Sonny" Simmons & Billy Lamar & Linda Simmons all of Baxley; Daughter in Law, Geneva Simmons; Sister, Vertle Brinson of Madison, Florida. Grandchildren, Regina & Richard Rainwater, Keith & Cindy Simmons, Sharon & Jimmy Dean Sikes, Kraig & Christeena Simmons, Jeffery & Rayann Simmons, Kevin & Christy Simmons, Ginger & Chris White, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Creig Smith, Rev. Denny Waters and Rev. Rick Brown officiating.
Interment will follow in Corinth Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Keith Simmons, Kraig Simmons, Jeffery Simmons, Kevin Simmons, Richard Rainwater, Jimmy Dean Sikes and Chris White.
Honorary Pallbearers are staff of Comfort Care Hospice, B Hall Staff with other staff of the Pavilion, Elaine Williams, Ruby Joyner and members of Crosby Chapel Church.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Swain Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
