Wynell Jackson Herrington, our precious mother and Mema, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at her home, after an extended illness with Alzheimer’s, under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice.
Mrs. Herrington was born June 8, 1941 in Appling County to the late Lewis & Nancy Jackson. She was a homemaker, former substitute school teacher, and a former Family Dollar Manager. She loved sewing, gardening, cooking, and her church. Mrs. Herrington was a member of Zoar Baptist Church where she served as VBS Director, Kitchen Committee Chair and in many other roles.
Mrs. Herrington was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Theron Herrington, a sister, Betty Lightsey, and brothers, Andy, L. W., Bruce, Don, and Robert Jackson.
Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Gail & Richard Thompson of Baxley; son & daughter-in-law, Keith & Joan Herrington of Hazlehurst; four grandchildren, Lindsey (Ryan) Flowers, Kyle Thompson, Madelyn Herrington, and Joshua Herrington; sister, Jenny (Delton) Drawdy of Waycross; and her loving caregivers, Diana Stone, Melsina Robinson, and Elvira Moses. Her faithful companion, who rarely left her side, Sassy, also survives.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Zoar Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Williamson officiating.
Active pallbearers will be the Deacons of Zoar Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zoar Baptist Church (10170 Zoar Road Baxley, Georgia 31513).
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
